Once you install the Simply Automated Pre-Configured Dimmer Starter Kit, with the push of a button you can turn on up to three of your home's lights at the levels of your choice.
The Dimmer Starter Kit is an excellent choice for anyone who wants the safety of a well-lit home. You can set up a control dimmer at your home's entryway, for instance, giving you the ability to turn on lights in up to three different rooms at once, so you never have to enter a dark home again. For added security you can also set the kit up to give you control of your outdoor lighting without having to step outside.
Expanded Applications with Optional Accessories
In addition to improving your home's safety, the Dimmer Starter Kit can be augmented with optional accessories that give you the ability to control the lighting throughout your home to suit your activities and moods.
By adding the optional three-piece Lamp Starter Kit (DKIT-02) to your system, you can place the tabletop controller by your bed and turn off lights anywhere in your house without getting up. Other optional accessories include Lamp Modules (UML7 or UML8), Standard Dimmers (US1W9 or US1W10), a deluxe four-button single rocker dimmer (US2W12), a four-button tabletop controller (US2TP11), and the Scheduler Timer (UCS-01), which gives you the freedom to program on/off scheduling for each device.
You can add only one of each model number to your system. This gives you the ability to use up to 12 devices at once for truly flexible lighting customization, making it easy to create different moods for entertaining, cooking, reading, and watching movies.
Simply Automated also offers custom faceplates in a wide array of colors to match your home's decor. (Sold separately.)
SimplySmart Technology Ensures a "1-2-3 Done!" Installation
The Dimmer Starter Kit relies on SimplySmart Technology that allows the devices in the kit to "talk" to one another without any special software or installation. Because the kit also relies on UPB technology, which sends and receives pulses over the preexisting electrical system in your home, you don't need to invest in expensive reconstruction or rewiring to control the lighting in your home.
Installation is as simple as "1-2-3 Done!" Simply install the deluxe dimmer in a place that's most convenient for you, and install the two dimmers in rooms of your choice, and you're done. The deluxe dimmer features four switches that give you the option of turning on or off any of the lights independently of each other, or all at once.
Installation Requirements
Simply Automated dimmers require both a neutral (white) and hot (black) connection. The dimmers are not for use on three-way circuits and are not intended for use in multi-dwelling units. Homes using Simply Automated dimmers should be no more than 2,500 square feet and should have only one breaker panel. A phase coupler is required in some home installations.

I am a long time X10 user and these are much more reliable. Programing was easy. I did purchase a programmer right from the start. Lots of features. If you like X10, you'll love these. They are what X10 should have been. I have had one 'noise' problem though. I have a 12v halogen track fixture who's electronic transformer started to generate so much noise that even these signals couldn't get through. They were on the same breaker. The Electronic transform finally failed all-together and the new one doesn't cause the problem. Just in case, though, I installed a noise block on the transformer when I replaced it. To put this in perspective, had I been using X10, the entire system would have stopped working when the transformer started generating noise, instead of just one circuit. These are easy to use, very noise immune, have a high quality look and feel. I decided to change out more switches in my home so I picked up a basic starter package.First, this wasn't as easy to install as the plug-in package but it still wasn't too bad. You have to know how to install a wall switch. Using the existing wiring from the old switch, you just use a wire nut to put these in. Pretty easy to learn if you haven't done so but remember to turn off the breaker first. If you know nothing about electrical wiring read up on it or have a friend/electrician do this for you. So after the install, these were pre-configured to work with my four button switch that came with my plug-in package. It worked fine but I wanted to customize my installation.
